This is my first blog and I thought why not to start with a topic that touches everyone of us. Whether poor or rich, whether male or female, everyone once in his lifetime makes it to a doctor.
Doctors - Lifeline of any nation. Without medical facilities and truly professional training for doctors I think no nation will be able to survive or grow with its full capability. Why are African nations lagging behind in the race of development?? I think poverty, unemployment, colonization in the past are the major factors that are much talked about but i think there are many other factors too that are not able to make it to the frontage of newspapers. One of them is MEDICAL FACILITIES. All the European nations and USA today boast of the best of the medical facility available to their citizens but as an INDIAN, are we proud of medical facility and so called medical culture prevalent in our country ??
Today there are many organizations like WHO that deal with providing medical facilities worldwide. They provide medicines that are in demand at a large scale free of cost. Although there work is highly commendable, any nation along with these types of help needs somebody who can provide the correct prescription to the patients. It is only possible if world class training facilities for doctors are provided.
Doctors not only need to provide correct prescription but also need to make it sure that the prescription reaches the patient. Now you may be surprised as to by what I mean by this. Let me explain this to you by giving an example. A patient was suffering from a disease and decided to go to a doctor who was very famous in the city. The doctor wrote 3-4 medicines and asked him to get it from the medical store. The patient went to the shop and asked for the prescribed medicines. The shopkeeper said he does not have the medicine which was written at the last. He went to the other shop and got the same reply from there too. He went to two more shops but he was not able to find the medicine. So he went back to the doctor and told him about the problem. The doctor smiled and said " That is not a medicine, that is my signature."
So the epitome of the story is although a doctor may be best in his business but what is the use of his being professional if he cannot make the patient tell what is the problem and what are the medicines he has provided. Whenever any patient goes to a doctor all he expects is that the doctor will approach him in a friendly way and not in a harsh way. Moreover a little bit of good words always makes the patient comfortable and he is able to explain about the problems properly.
Going to a private doctor is completely different from going into a govt. hospital but majority of the population ( 90% ) goes to govt. hospitals. It is in these govt. hospitals that we deal with doctors who are abrasive. True to their professional work, when you have to deal with so many patients, one is bound to get frustrated but at the same time I think the doctors should not forget that the patients they deal with do not have any knowledge about the medical terms. So all is required from the doctors is few good words and not to get angry over small things.
Now comes the problem of prescription. Medicines are not simple tablets but for the patients, these tiny things are the ones which can save their lives. So whenever doctor prescribes, patients always tend to have an eagerness to know as to what has been prescribed but to the agony of the patients, they can hardly understand any word of what doctor writes. Moreover doctors do tell about when to take the medicines, many doctors fail to do so in a hurry and its the medical store people who tell them as to how many doses to take in a day. At the back of his mind, the patient always feel whether the medical store guy has told him the right dose or not. Now this a minor doubt but the doubt becomes even more in case of aged persons when they do not know as to take the pill before food or after food. Writing B or A after the medicine makes it very clear whether it is after food or before food and hardly wastes any time but all it provides is satisfaction to the patients.
Being a Doctor is not simply a profession. People come to the doctor with the only hope that he will cure them and provide them with few more days to live and enjoy. So all is required from the doctors is to deal with them in a friendly way and convey as to what has been said. The whole nation, directly or indirectly, is dependent upon them. It is not only the Engineers and IAS and Defence that have duties toward the nation but also the doctors who have to deal professionally and many a times have to take decision from their heart. MUNNA BHAAI MBBS was released far back but have we taken the message that the actors and directors wanted to give us. I would not have written this blog had the answer been YES but sadly its NO and then we start complaining that Bollywood does not produce good movies. But that's how it is in India my friends. Complaints, pointing fingers to each other, and the life goes on....
